People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

I've stayed in an underground hotel in the Oz outback. Very sensible, given the climate...

The idea of living retired in the countryside is most depressing. Living in a city is much more fun and you can get rid of the car as well. Here the demand for inner city housing is enormous. People dont want to commute anymore. Retired people dont want to be isolated either.

Enough to get some acreage on a deep-water river like the Tennessee. Trawler at the dock, off-grid home, decent 4x4, and a couple of quad bikes. Weed patch, garden, still (for medicinal alcohol), a few goats - and the best part - no other ground apes in sight (other than Mrs. Lak of course). O, Wilderness were Paradise enow.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Lak, that's just not civilized. You really must change your attitude and be more Dutch about this. Otherwise, you're wrong.

I live in the countryside, and while it's beautiful and not really that isolated, it's a real pain without a car. An hour away from a major hospital, and hour and a half to get to and from the supermarket on the bus, shit pubs with crappy beer, nowhere to buy shoe laces or grouting (you can get a decent Merlot at the local shop, but you can't get a light bulb for love nor money - and I've tried both!), and the people - christ! The place is dead during the week because so many work away and then at the weekend they all come back and it turns into a theme park: crisp waxed jackets and hunter wellies, 2.4 kids + uncontrollable dog tramping through the sheep, two 4x4s per household (when the only off-road they ever see is the car park at Nettos) bunging up the green and what pavements there are, and complaining on and on about bollocks, like that the place smells of cow shit when they're muck-spreading or, how it took them ten minutes to get to the main road because they couldn't overtake the horses, or about how the cockerel on Moorend should have its neck wrung for waking them up at seven o'clock in the morning.

Well Brian that is exactly my point. My hospital it three stops away by bus from around the corner. My medical centre where my doc is is just 5mins walking. Shops two hundred metres walking. I use a trolley. Tram stop 25 metres away with two tram lines. Central Station is 3 mins and city centre 5 mins. I just love the convenience.

It's OK to leave the first word out, which changes the meaning of the remainder. Almost everyone does that, but you could have got the spelling right.

I fucking hate Melbourne. It's full of wankers (present company aside, of course.. ;) ) and the weather is shit. The food (and sport, if you can afford it) is the only good thing about the place.

I saw the population figures for Melb and Sydney (the "Greater" cities population) the other day. Melb is only half a million behind now (4.5mil vs 5mil). It's got way too big.
