to be clearer, the problem isn't that organic isn't a laudable pursuit. It's that it is done in a terrible way in the US (and probably increasingly in other places).

Organic is not a laudable pursuit. It's a gimmick. And, it takes far more land to farm organically, which in and of itself is terrible for the environment.

I agree that some of the opposition to GMO is irrational, and that some aspects of the organic movement are rather too "New Age'

However, that does not mean that all aspects of genetic modification are sensible moves, or that organically grown food is always a more expensive option...

Well, oxygen is toxic too, thank god we evolved with adaptations to deal with it and there is still the oxidation because it forms oxides with almost anything, and it is a waste product of photosynthesis.

So it makes sense to you to say that organic is worse for the environment because it takes up hypothetical land that renewables could go on? Even if it was taking up land, which it isn't, wind farms and agriculture are not incompatible. And even if it was taking up land that renewables could go on, that's only one measure of environmental utility and is therefore utterly useless to base definitive statements on.

It makes sense to you to say that agricultural pests are a threat to human safety??

It makes sense to you to focus solely on the US corporate farming market when in other parts of the world pesticide use (both organic and inorganic) is highly curtailed?

It makes sense to you to point to a cow farm shit paddock running off into the waterways and equate that with controlled manure use for organic fertilisation?

It makes sense to you to claim that hormones and antibiotics aren't a risk factor for humans and/or animals?

I could go on, but I sense it would be a waste of time.

Cherry-picking individual less fortunate expressions is not the art of argumentation. Anyway, I do not want to be forced to buy organic and this is what is happening. You do not have to walk out of your way to find organic, it is the other way round.

Organic as a concept is a laudable aim. Organic as a US corporate brand is like most corporate brands - hollow and disingenuous.
