When what really happened was that they unstrapped him from the instructor, and then got him to lie back down, blinking like he had just landed.
He could have done that jump just as well if he was dead.

Our impression is that we went over there, kicked ass and saved the day. Anyone else's contribution to the war is considered insignificant.
