I am surprised no one (and there are plenty of Australians on the forum) have not mentioned Julia Gillard who just openly declared herself as being an atheist recently just last month. I very much admire her for her frankness and honesty as there are too many politicians who just pretend to believe in the great puppet master in the sky or some imaginary friend hovering above them even if they personally find such a concept to be totally implausible

That's great, I like it. One more thing that distances her from the opposition leader and predecessor.
