I once blasted off a full 30 round magazine of an M1 Garand as fast as I could pull the trigger into a dead treestump from 20 yards away when I was stoned...

I think I hit it a few times...

We are talking the same gun, right? (perhaps it was the M1A, but it certainly wasn't a Mini-14)

US WW2 semi-automatic carbine, .30 caliber...

The rounds were almost pistol-like (no flare from bullet to cartridge)

Given that, it certainly had a "banana style" magazine, whether it was 20 or 30 rounds I'm not sure...
