Until they find wreckage there is still hope. Science used to locate the plane southwards is not tested, there is room for error no matter what the bods with the sliderules say. It may have landed and until there is wreckage all should cling to hope. It is the right thing to do.

The sort of thing to know before boarding a flight. Not so useful information afterwards.rainbow wrote:That clears up the entire matter as the Daily Telegraph is infallible.macdoc wrote:The Telegraph considers it suicide flight now based on sources not yet revealed

Fear of flying is only one small step up from fear of being bitten by a shark while having a bath. If fear was proportionate to the chance of being killed in a crash you'd feel much less of it in an aeroplane than in a car.

Existential risks to self are not calculated by the law of averages, rather whether they could happen to you based on counterfactual reasoning and gut instinct. Probability can only take you so far and doesn't explain the universe and all the odd plus very odd things happening in it. Jim C is a mathematics geeks, he doesn't trust stats.

We have nothing to fear but fear itself. In central Africa you are more likely to be eaten by another person than a shark, which is another meaningless statistic that we can ponder as we while away our insignificant lives.Hermit wrote:Fear of flying is only one small step up from fear of being bitten by a shark while having a bath. Fear of riding a mule? You bet. You'll never get me up on one of those things.
As far as flying goes, I have no fear of flying. It's crashing I'm scared of.
The authorities are certain it's a suicide, it's just a question of who.
How do they know? It's the way the plane was flown, following navigation points, and dropping low, where there is radar, and climbing again when out of range.
Macdoc, there's no chance it went to the Maldives. None whatsoever, according to the ping analysis.
At the time it was claimed to have been seen in the Maldives, it was pinging west of Perth, thousands of miles away. Give it up.

Suicide by flying a plane till it runs out of gas? Sounds kind of wimpy.

Mass murder of over 200 people? I'm glad there aren't more wimpy people.Tero wrote:Suicide by flying a plane till it runs out of gas? Sounds kind of wimpy.
Might as well shit your pants. Everybody else is. Who's going to care?Tero wrote:"Is there time to go to the toilet before we crash?"

Not sure that the door protecting the pilot would be sufficient to hold back for more than a couple of hours +200 people who fear for their lives.

They were all likely dead from lowering the cabin pressure

How many Christians on board? Could easily be a case of premature rapture. A test run so to speak?
