Re: 92,000 classified military documents leaked
If not so sad it would be amusing, that some people in the US actually believe that attack on the twin towers (financial), the pentagon (military), and a miss on the white house (government) was made for no reason at all. That it was simply made by a bunch of crazy muslim nuts that just hate america soooo much because of there is soooo much "freedom". Either a damning statement on the american education system or the glowing success of the US propaganda machine. It's like a reason you would give a 5 year old, even that would be insulting.
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

I appreciate the symbolism, but how naive is it to think that 9-11 was the work of some guys with a moneyless egalitarian free society in mind for the world?sandinista wrote:If not so sad it would be amusing, that some people in the US actually believe that attack on the twin towers (financial), the pentagon (military), and a miss on the white house (government) was made for no reason at all. What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Who said that? Of course there were reasons. They weren't good reasons, and they weren't reasons that render the US response to 9/11 unjustified, but there were reasons.sandinista wrote:If not so sad it would be amusing, that some people in the US actually believe that attack on the twin towers (financial), the pentagon (military), and a miss on the white house (government) was made for no reason at all.
1996 fatwā entitled "Declaration of War against the Americans Occupying the Land of the Two Holy Places" and 1998, Fatwa for Jihad against Jews and Crusaders. That would constitute Al Qaeta putting its "reasons" on the table.sandinista wrote:

What does an Islamic state look like and would you like to live in one? Would you invite your gay friends to come visit you there?sandinista wrote:Not sure I get what you're saying Robert_S.
There are good points in Osama's letter to the US, but to do this attack and the ones preceding it, is not the mark of a person motivated by concern for other human beings. It is the mark of someone who thinks "You are the bad guys, therefore whatever I do against you is good"
What did 9-11 do? It made the re-escalation of the Iraq war possible, it made the invasion of Afghanistan possible, it made two terms of GW Bush possible, it made any criticism of our policy damn near tantamount to treason for a while.
It is almost as if the Neocons and the Islamists were conspiring. They probably weren't but they think alike in some ways, so they don't need to.

Would I like to live in an Islamic state, no. In the same breath a large amount of muslims would not want to live in a christian state either. Not sure your point there. I don't think the attacks were motivated by concern for humans. The attacks were, in reality, counter attacks. In response to US military bases and US interference in the middle east.Robert_S wrote:What does an Islamic state look like and would you like to live in one? http://killinghope.org/bblum6/sep11.htmOf course it's not America the terrorists hate; it's
American foreign policy. It's what the United States has done to
the world in the past half century -- all the violence, the
bombings, the depleted uranium, the cluster bombs, the
assassinations, the promotion of torture, the overthrow of
governments, and more.

That's why they should live in a free state, where the individual right to practice a religion, or not, as one sees fit is protected for each individual. There should be no "Muslim countries" at all. There should be countries with a majority Muslim population, currently (but not necessarily).sandinista wrote:Would I like to live in an Islamic state, no. Where does a non-governmental organization like Al Qaeta, existing in countries other than Saudi Arabia, acquire standing to dictate where and when a nation allows another nation like Saudi Arabia to have a military base? Who the fuck are they? Emperor of the middle east?sandinista wrote:

Your argument is like saying that the Westboro Baptist Church would be "counterattacking" by flying a plane into a gay bar because they object to the United States allowing gay bars to exist.

I'm glad I don't live in a Christian state too. But actually, many Muslims leave Islamic states to live in western secular ones.sandinista wrote:Would I like to live in an Islamic state, no. It was a shit counter attack that started an escalation that paved the way for two invasions and shifted the mood in the country to such a frenzy that our military couldn't even get the strategy right to prevent gratuitous deaths.sandinista wrote:http://killinghope.org/bblum6/sep11.htmOf course it's not America the terrorists hate; it's

Dude, we're speaking English here.sandinista wrote:what does better in general mean?
I know you don't want to answer the question, because you know the only answer you can give is inconsistent with your assertion. So, you evade.
In general: considering or dealing with overall characteristics, universal aspects, or important elements, esp. without considering all details or specific aspects: such as general instructions; a general description; a general resemblance one to another.
Clear enough? Or, is your next question to be "what are 'characteristics'?"
