Re: General Election UK. The true reason !!
The housing market isn't going anywhere - even if it undergoes a period of sustained negative equity.

Dave would, however, drunkenly rant at the trains. Not quite the same, I know, but still...

It's actually better if the housing market corrects itself, like it appears to be doing, rather than the bubble being burst by a rise in interest rates and or unemployment. If you want to see a disaster, check back in on Australia in about 2 years time when rates start going up and wages have continued to stagnate.

I think there was, but it profited infinitely from its position in the EU, yet at the borders.mistermack wrote:Of course.Scot Dutchy wrote:The bubble is bursting. Once the banks have pulled out of the City London will be finished.
There was no City of London before we joined the EU.

The City will lose it's 'passport' status after Brexit - it will no longer serve as the primary access point into the EU financial services sector for those outside the EU.

they didn't properly lobby against that referendum, their fault, back to bowler hatted geezers sending orders from their private clubs.

Re: General Election UK. The true reason !!
When people choose financial services, I doubt that their first priority is whether they come from inside the EU.
It's expertise, and current and historical stability that they value.
London has a huge reputation for both.
The EU has some pretty fundamental underlying financial weaknesses, and I doubt very much that it's primed to take much business from London.
Will Germans eventually agree to prop up Italians, or the Spanish, or the Greeks, etc etc ?
If they don't, there will be some pretty major chaos.
The prospects for financial security are probably better with London than the EU.

Re: General Election UK. The true reason !!
We had local elections yesterday, and the count results are coming in.
So far, the results are huge gains for the Conservatives, massive losses for UKIP, and fairly substantial losses for Labour, with the Liberal Democrats going nowhere.
It's a much lower turnout than a general election, but it still shows the mood in the country.
If Labour were in with a real chance, they would be showing huge gains.
Even if they were in with a poor chance, they should still be showing substantial gains.
That's what normally happens, in local elections, against a sitting government.
The result of yesterday's election looks like being the best for a sitting government since the election following the Falklands war victory. Maybe even better than that.
It's looking like a landslide for Theresa May. Although that can change.
Clever move for Theresa. A year of falling house prices, and the mood could be very different.

You might be right.
