Re: GMO
Not really, given organic is considerably more expensive and often less presentable than non-organic.

Re: GMO
Can anyone explain why it is 'organic' if grown in animal turds, but not human turds as fertiliser?DRSB wrote:Not my impression. It is expanding to suppress the non-organic one. 70% of the mutton sold in GB is halal. Why? Easier to sell because non-halals will buy it just as the halals who would not buy non-halal mutton. Very sound business logic, actually!rainbow wrote:Agreed. The "organic" industry will go down as the worst marketing scam since flavoured condoms.

Re: GMO
It's usually animals that don't eat meat, and therefore restricts the transfer of parasites and other nasties. Well that's the theory anyway.

Organic is not a laudable pursuit. It's a gimmick. And, it takes far more land to farm organically, which in and of itself is terrible for the environment.eRvin wrote:to be clearer, the problem isn't that organic isn't a laudable pursuit. It's that it is done in a terrible way in the US (and probably increasingly in other places).

I won't buy anything halal, or organic. I have mistakenly purchased organic sometimes, and I'm pissed off when it happens. it's like homeopathy. Pure bunk.DRSB wrote:Not my impression. Oh, look! Organic bananas! Better get those! Wouldn't want to eat those other bananas! Cuz, well, like, they're not organic. They were grown with fertilizer, not shit, so, well, you know. The shit grown fruit is way better. It's common sense.

Re: GMO
Soon we'll have to go out of the city to look for non-organic because all the central chops sell organic only, really annoying! And so expensive!Forty Two wrote:I won't buy anything halal, or organic. I have mistakenly purchased organic sometimes, and I'm pissed off when it happens. it's like homeopathy. Re: GMO
I never buy organic produce. Organic means grown in diseased shit.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Interesting point about limited selection. It will be interesting to see if the Mexicans at our biggest farmers market--feg off, they've been around forever
--take it up.
I doubt it.

Well, oxygen is toxic too, thank god we evolved with adaptations to deal with it and there is still the oxidation because it forms oxides with almost anything, and it is a waste product of photosynthesis.

I've definitely developed a fair bit of rust over the years.
'n yar, the popularity of organics can probably be attributed to ignorance of plants. But increasingly, where it impacts my small corner, it's about opposing fert manufacturers.

The personal care business is booming
http://www.vitacost.com/bathandpersonalcare
this is because
1. they do add irritating ingredients..I can't use most detergents
2. we had the proctrer and gambles of the world testing products on rodents
they needed to as the ingredients were in fact man made and could be called drugs and were similar to over the counter drug products

Re: GMO
Well, all the veggies we grow are organic in the main. We use mainly cow manure and home-made compost, and the only spray that goes on is a home-made one, based of soap and olive oil.
Bloody tasty veggies, too...
