Privilege (or, "the cumulative effects of prejudice, bigotry, racism past and present etc." if you truly can't stand the word) is a factor among other factors and that is hard for the simple minded to grasp. That something can be relevant and exert an influence on group X to varying degrees without being the sole determining factor in their success rate seems to fly over the heads of so many people.

Saying that, on average and all other things being equal, black folks face more challenges than white folks does not erase any black folks' success any more than saying that winning a twenty on a scratch off ticket is not a reliable way to make money.

Still, saggy pants are not classy.

What I do not agree with is any implication that racist discrimination is of so little import that failures of blacks to become solidly, properly and affluently bourgeois like she and her father, her father's father and her father's father' father (not so hidden MP reference here) have become, that only laziness can explain it, or some other personal weakness. No, you don't need to be of any particular skin colour to be an exemplar of low-life, but the increased incidence of being one is due to discrimination against African Americans, that is to say racism. Neither Washington nor Smith seem capable of looking at the bigger picture.

Asians do fine. Latinos are only disadvantaged when they are first or second generation. So maybe we should stop calling it white privilege, and start referring to it as black disadvantagement. True Native Americans also suffer, but there are clear institutional reasons for that (and the fact that those aren't addressed by blacks who birch and moan about racism tells you their real motivations). Add to this that all racial groups tend to have roughly similar IQ test scores save for one (blacks) when controlling for neighborhood (to avoid income and nutritional disparities) and the truth of the matter is painfully obvious to anyone not obsessed with upholding the lie that all people are created equal. Blacks are mentally inferior over the aggregate, plain and simple.

IQ is closely related to a enriched emotionally supportive environment in early development. The issue of low IQ in the black communities could be resolved by dispersing enclaves of deprivation into middle class areas, so color folks could learn better ways and white folks greater tolerance. That would mean America spending money on its own people rather than waging the next war - a difficult sacrifice for white privilege in America.
