I've been researching my family tree for over 16 years now!

3 convicts! And as my mother is Tasmanian I am related to everyone in Tasmania

English, Dutch, German, Huguenot French and if you go far enough back I have Scottish, Polish, Belgian, Ukrainian, Danish, Norwegian etc etc (I can trace my ancestry back to Charlemagne and further)

Let's face it we are all connected if you go back far enough. :drunk:

100% Viking as far back as the records go....

I sometimes wish that Harald Hardrada had not left half his army/armor back at his boats in York. I think he should've been able to take Godwinson at Stamford Bridge. I wonder what Hardrada's army, with prep time, might have been able to accomplish against the Normans.....

I'd love to see the documentation that would back this claim up.

I traced my lineage back to Africa: https://genographic.nationalgeographic. ... index.html

Actually, I really did - I sent away for the kit and sent it in. The results are very interesting, if you have $100 bucks to spend on a lark.

I'm half German (Protestant), half Dutch (Jew). My Dutch mother's side of the family is related to the Citroen family, the French car manufacturers. But we've never met any of them. Most of her family was wiped out in WW2.

Actually, maybe not that much... they might have crushed the saxons, they still would have had to run all the way from Stamford to Hastings, except in hostile country, and then faced large numbers of archers and armored cavalry,, which they might not be at top efficiency against... then, if I believe my college profs and the authorities they believe in, there's no record of purely Norse forces ever winning a victory agains serious opposition unless they had overwhelming weight of number : i.e. they may have been superlative duellists and raiders, but they did not fight well at all against actual armies.

I just found online my paternal grandfather's entry on a ship manifest from when they came over from Russia in 1922 to escape the madness there. Cheers to the internet! :toot:

Hmm. I thought I'd posted earlier in this thread but it looks like I didn't ...

I'm English.

My parents were born in England.

My paternal grandparents were born in England.
My maternal grandparents were born in England.

Some of their parents came from Wales and Ireland. And England. (The mad grandparent insisted on a Romanian (or possibly Bulgarian) distant relative too.)

My family name (which I share with lofuji) apparently originates with a particular wave of Nordic settlers, way back when.
