They really are a relic of the past, sentimentally cared for and trotted out like living heirlooms. I wonder what they really think about their 'privileged' lives, if they think in any depth about it at all.

Oddly this visit is one of the few 'practical' in a political sense functions they have performed in decades. This visit marks the 'normalisation' of relations between Ireland and the UK. Long overdue to many of us.

..I will add that I am a republican (as in ant-monarchy!), so I am not rushing to their defence.
