Should Congressmen Decline Health Coverage?
Chuck Schumer says that those who oppose Obamacare should forgo coverage: http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/ ... ml?showall
I have always thought it ludicrous that the taxpayer pays for the health care of Senators, Representatives and their families. Those fucking tools ARE THE RICH! They earn $174,000 a year. They can fucking damn well afford their own health insurance on the private market. They ought to have their benefits slashed, and pay for them themselves.
Now, I know it's a drop in the bucket when it comes to the deficit and the debt - but, for crying out loud, almost every expense is, in and of itself, just a drop in the bucket. We have to simply stop dropping a lot of drops in the bucket.
If our Congressmen and women were loyal Americans, they would take a 20% cut in pay right now, and eliminate the entire Congressional health care, vision, dental and other benefits, and slash their own retirement benefits dramatically, to show solidarity with the US citizenry. The fact that they don't is sickening.
I mean - that really is what is needed - someone needs to go expense by expense and slash where slashing can be done. Some of them, during this recession, have no shame and go on Hawaiian vacations at $10,000 a night price tags: http://www.hawaiireporter.com/pelosi-ob ... h-the-bill
Congressmen in 1815 made about $1,500 per year. Using the inflation calculator, that would equal $21,600: http://www.measuringworth.com/ppowerus/ ... /ppowerus/ - I say we cut their pay to $21,600, and they can go F themselves.

Re: Should Congressmen Decline Health Coverage?
Yeah, it's about time America had a long drawn out expenses scandal, with the papers each week revealing more weird and wonderful wastes of taxpayers money until everyone loses all of the little faith in politics they had, and then the papers keep revealing more, by which point everyone is so sick of hearing about how corrupt the politicians are that when the next election comes around nobody really cares and some backstabbing wanker helps the Tories get in adn - I forget if I had a point here, but I don't think this is it.

rabble rabble rabble
start the revolution!
String up the politicians and let's start again with something else!

Or we can dance, and drink, and screw,
Because there's nothing else to do.
:sighsm:

And health insurance isn't too expensive for people making over minimum wage. Hubby and I just dropped his company's insurance and found coverage on our own. We're paying $430 a month for almost the exact same coverage that we had through his company, and we were paying nearly $900!
We danced.

...the health services is what I was referring to...not your gas and parking...although the parking was probably subsidized too. The health services didn't cost 2.50. The health serves cost a lot more than that. You just didn't pay it.Tigger wrote:You quoted me, but you didn't even bother to look.Coito ergo sum wrote:Correction - it "cost" SOMEONE ELSE much more.Tigger wrote:Oh I know.
