Indeed RDF has proved for good that there is no such thing as intelligent design. I have never been active in there, nor do I know anything of that person Josh, but for sure this has been one of the dumbiest movements I have ever seen in project management. There are one thousand ways to redesign, improve or simply change a project, but after reading the posts minute after minute of what was going on, I think they have simply chosen in every single case the worst way to do every step. Mr. Timonen has done the impossible: Lose the biggest "customer" share in the online atheists market. Enrage and create an strike of experienced staff members, and fuck up a brand product that had a holyness halo around it. I am wordless. Bella will know more for sure, but I can't think how could Timonen survive a RL CV check-up. I would not let him manage a monopolistic candy store in a school of rich children!
Living in a comunist country, I am frightfully surprised of the trend of atheists groups to play a "daddy knows best" system. Rationalia apart of that, of course, where a more accurate spirit of "Daddy knows shit", reigns...
Now I am very interested about these changes. As forums get their personality from its members and its system, I am very interested about seeing the new Ratz personality with all these good members adding their personality and knowledge.
About RDF, I am very very eager to see what is the "new project". RD himself and RDF have always tried to push an elitist approach to atheism, something that I consider it actually backfires the secularization of the anglo society (and just the anglo society; from all the good speakers on pro of an atheistic view, RD has been the less universalistic of them all. Being Spanish and living in Asia, I am sore about the anglocentrism of the RD phenomenon).
But on the other hand it all smells as a profesionalism of the RD online circle. Profesionalist should be read profit seeker. More exlusive content, and I guess a "pay-per-view" system... It is so paralel to the battles of China and Vietnam against Facebook and Google, that it's scary.
I hope that not many of those who have been insulted and mistreated in RDF will come back when it restarts. But I know that many will. The behavioral pattern of RDF resembles too much to a religion. Gawd has a plan that you cannot understand, come back and your sins will be forgotten...
For everyone, it is the time to evolve.
I'm really really hoping we can move the contest here, if the admins will allow it? I'll pm everyone who entered and copy all the posts across if need be? We will need a new name though, like the "Bugger Richard Dawkins Forum Science Writing Contest"...
