The Mythology Trivia Thread

Post by Chinaski » Tue Mar 17, 2009 3:28 pm

I was gonna put this in literature, but a lot of mythology is recollected in visual art and tribal memory, so it goes here.

These three gods, the boss god and his two sons shot dice to decide who would get what in the world. One won the Sea, one won the Land, and the loser got the Sky.

I hope we have enough mythology buffs here to keep this working.

I'm stumped, but I'm gonna hazard a guess... Incan gods?

Hmmm, are you sure about this? if so this is an interesting coincidence involving mythology from mutliple sources.

As i recall the first Greek god Chronos had three sons: Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. They rolled dice to see who would get the Sea, Sky, and Underworld. Hades lost and got stuck with the underworld. The rest is obvious.

Someone PM me when you hit Mexico because I can give you names, addresses, inside-leg measurement if need be. Otherwise I'm clueless. That doesn't sound Inca to me though I have to say. Though Peru's a long way away from Mexico so I'm sketchy (beyond raising an eyebrow at one mythological text which listed 'Wanka' as a Peruvian Deity - think it actually meant 'Huaca' referring to a stone stela).

How about a hint? Like general time or region or culture?

I also assume it's not Roman? - since they aped the Greeks.

Okay, very ancient, and the head god's name is spelled the same as a people found in East Asia.

Another hint. The people that belived in these gods and the people that share the name are on opposite ends of the continent.

Another hint. The people mentioned are a minority in their area and quite possibly not originally from that area. The "locals" don't like them much.
