Why doesn't Carlson just come out and say it? If Trump had been re-elected, he would have ended Nato and Ukraine would not have been invaded.

The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.politi ... f_amp=trueA Texas judge on Friday ordered a statewide halt to a directive from Republican Gov. Greg Abbott that called for abuse investigations into the use of gender-affirming care for transgender children, handing a major victory to civil rights organizations that sued to block the order this month.
...
The judge ruled Abbott’s directive and ensuing orders from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services were unconstitutional, exceeded their authority and improperly encroached into the authority of the state legislature. Meachum scheduled a trial for July.

How does this sit against state regulations concerning consent for the medical treatment of minors? I'm assuming that anyone under 18 is technically a child and therefore needs parental consent. Shouldn't Abbott be investigating parents as possible child abusers for consenting to - and presumably paying for - transgender affirming medical care for their children?Sean Hayden wrote:https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.politi ... f_amp=trueA Texas judge on Friday ordered a statewide halt to a directive from Republican Gov. Prior to Paxton and Abbott's nonsense there was nothing to investigate, and hopefully that's how it will stay. To my knowledge the families are working with healthcare professionals to find what is best. If Paxton and Abbott want to carve out an exception in healthcare for gender issues, then let them start by showcasing their vast understanding of the subject and especially modern treatments.

Re: Republicans: continued
Oil industry and GOP are on a repeat message about Biden. But the voters do not get that the oil market is global.
https://gizmodo.com/an-energy-expert-br ... fR9L6czeKgClark Williams-Derry: Biden’s Russian oil ban hasn’t affected supplies in the U.S. yet. There may be a cargo that’s been canceled, but it’s had relatively little short-term impact on U.S. supplies.
People are probably wondering, hey, the U.S. produces a lot of oil, why don’t we just use our oil? Why can’t we just replace Russia’s 8% with our 8%? It doesn’t work that way. We’re part of the global market. Oil produced in the U.S. can just go straight out to other countries. And that ties our prices to the global market.
By choosing to export oil, we’ve basically hitched the U.S. economy and gas prices to a global roller coaster ride that we have no control over. And oil prices are basically decided by a bunch of sweaty men in a mosh pit in the NYMEX trading floor.

Re: Republicans: continued
It seems to me that what Abbot and Paxton are carving out is a political position. This doesn't need evidence - the rhetoric they're using is justification enough: "We will protect our Texan children from abuse. Those who don't agree with us are child abusers or enablers thereof."Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 11:27 pmPrior to Paxton and Abbott's nonsense there was nothing to investigate, and hopefully that's how it will stay. Families working with healthcare professionals have already travelled a long way; dealing with dysphoria, confronting gender norms and attitudes and addressing them in the context of their own families, is not a trivial matter. But Abbot and Paxton etc trivialise the entire debate in the hope of creating a particular kind of climate - a social environment where they can be seen to be fighting a moral ill, and winning hard. One has only to look at how 'working with healthcare professionals to find what is best' is playing out for women seeking termination services in Texas to see where this is coming from, and where it's going.
