When I worked at the hangar, the guy who introduced himself by helping repair my truck (showed me how to drain water from the fuel filter) left Vietnam, via one of those closed borders, with a couple dozen friends.

People with comorbities like diabetes, high blood pressure per obesity are more affected by covid because the virus attacks and multiplies in the inner lining of blood vessels, it causes infections of the heart, it causes blood clotting and it even causes clotting of immune system cells. All of these things don't increase the amount of virus shed through the respiratory tract. Most covid patients aren't infectious any more long before their acute symptoms disappear. People are most infectious shortly before and at the time of symptom onset.

Look at Italy's borders. Very few roads over the Alps which are hardly stoppable. Anything from Vietnam deserves a truckload of salt. What is the proof of the closed borders? The Americans could not stop them.

There's nothing to laugh about. The severe symptoms develop after the height of virus shedding is already over, because the severe symptoms aren't a result of the primary infection in the upper respiratory tract but occur because the virus starts to spread further in the body in the lower respiratory tract and the blood. Causing severe symptoms but not causing a lot of virus shedding anymore.
