For the past few decades, the US Republican Party has harbored and encouraged ever more doctrinaire spittle-flecked ideologues, from Gingrich to Tea Party creeps, and now the first QAnon-oriented elected officials have made their proud debuts. There is push-back against those qanonlings, but they're getting elected nonetheless. The most devoted MAGA enthusiasts are nearly indistinguishable from the them.

The article focuses on a particular example and makes it clear that the Republican Party in her state is marginalizing her. Will the party as a whole eventually come to accept these zealots, just as it accepted the Tea Party shitbirds?

'Senator Amanda Chase Is What the Next Frontier of GOP Lunacy Looks Like'
Chase, a far-right Republican and 2021 gubernatorial candidate, refuses to wear a mask during government session, forcing her at times to sit alone in a plexiglass quarantine box that she calls “the square of freedom.” Framed by sheets of wobbly plastic in these moments, Chase is a portrait of her political reality: isolated from her fellow Republican lawmakers and walled off by conspiratorial belief.

But Chase, who recently left the state Senate’s Republican caucus and was ousted from her local chapter of the GOP, is not alone. All year, she has stood shoulder to shoulder with members of far-right militant groups and conspiracy movements, some of whom would be arrested by year’s end. Now, in the twilight of 2020 and the Trump presidency, she’s playing the hits for the extremist crowd, lying about the vaccine, knowingly taking donations and “security” help from neo-Confederate and QAnon-linked extremists, and calling on President Donald Trump to overturn his election loss by declaring martial law.

Her gubernatorial campaign is an eerie preview of even stranger, more conspiratorial post-Trump Trumpism, even as her own state party grows increasingly uneasy with her antics.

Nancy Pelosi
@TeamPelosi
This is outrageous. On Christmas Eve, Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans deprived Americans of receiving $2,000 during the pandemic.

The house republicans will, however, override the Trump veto, so you will get the 600. Last thing trump gives us if he vetoes. If he pocket vetoes, no stimulus at all.

Republicans feeling the heat. Likely they would override the Trump veto, but he has to veto first, before they vote again!
Lawmakers say they are feeling heat from their constituents to get something done, pressure Trump doesn't appear to share.
"I did a town hall last night that had people crying, people terrified of what is going to happen," Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Michigan, said on Thursday after Democrats' measure failed.
"The President -- when we finally thought that we'd be able to give people hope -- that's what people need, hope -- and be able to begin to continue to work on this in January, he doesn't give a damn about people," she said. "He threw more fear -- he threw kerosene on a terror fire."
It wasn't only Democrats who were frustrated.
"If he thinks going on Twitter and trashing the bill his team negotiated and we supported on his behalf is going to bring more people to his side in this election fiasco, I hope he's wrong, though I guess we'll see," Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, R-Ohio, tweeted on Wednesday.

I know I left my lollipop in here somewhere.

Devin Nunes isn't seeing any more success than his boss in the courts of the US. What is it about Trump and Trumpists that causes them to fail so regularly in courts of law? Could it be that they have nothing to offer but an edifice of bullshit?

'Devin Nunes Loses Lawsuit Accusing The Washington Post of Conspiring with House Democrats to Defame Him'
Congressman Devin Nunes, a California Republican, on Christmas Eve received the legal equivalent of a lump of coal in his stocking: a federal district court judge in Washington, D.C. dismissed a defamation case Nunes launched against The Washington Post and writer Shane Harris. Thus, Nunes, the perennial loser of lawsuits, lost yet again. The case is but one of several Nunes has filed against the Post in a lengthy docket of litigation.

By the way, no need for a reminder that Devin Nunes is a lot more convincing than The Washington Post or I am.

And Louie Gohmert? A paragon of credibility compared to anybody even vaguely associated with this site. :smoke:

'Rep. Louie Gohmert, Pack of GOPers Sue Mike Pence in Bid to Force VP to Pick Trump Electors on Jan. 6'
A group of Republicans including Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas and Kelli Ward of Arizona is suing Vice President Mike Pence in a desperate, last-ditch attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. The Electoral College is scheduled to certify the win on Jan. 6, a procedural task overseen by the sitting vice president--in this case, Pence, who has not yet publicly acknowledged the fact that Trump lost his bid for a second term. In the lawsuit, details of which reporter John Kruzel of The Hill posted on Twitter, Gohmert, Ward, and 10 other plaintiffs such as Students for Trump COO Tyler Bowyer, Arizona Republican Party Executive Director Greg Safsten, and Maricopa County Republicans Second Vice Chair Nancy Cottle, are asking federal Judge Jeremy Kernodle, a Trump appointee, to declare Pence legally authorized to pick pro-Trump electors on Jan. 6.

Since Trump lost his November bid for a second term in the White House, certain members of the GOP have continued to stoke his delusion of having won by floating unlikely--and thus far, entirely unsuccessful--court challenges to President-elect Joe Biden's victory.

The current administration were fairly and democratically elected, therefore the current administration picking it's successor is simply an example of democracy in action.
