Vaping. New Research Suggests...

Post by Alan B » Wed Nov 13, 2019 12:26 pm

Latest research suggests that there is more to the dangers of vaping than illegal additives as in the American deaths.

E-cigarettes are so dangerous and addictive governments should consider banning vaping, cardiologists have warned.

Public Health England (PHE) insists e-cigarettes are 95% less harmful than smoking.
But Prof Munzel and his colleagues said there is only a "paucity of evidence" to support claims e-cigarettes are a "healthy" alternative to smoking or that they help people quit.
The new study, published in the European Heart Journal, looked at the effect of e-cigarette vapour on blood flow and stiffness in the brachial artery in the upper arm in 20 smokers before they vaped and 15 minutes after.
They also exposed 151 mice to e-cigarette vapour over one, three or five days, for 20 minutes six times a day.
Their results found one vaping episode increased heart rates and caused the arteries to stiffen, and the inner lining of the arteries - the endothelium - stopped working properly in smokers.
In the mice, blood vessels, including in the lungs and brain, appeared to become damaged.

It's early days yet, but the tobacco giants who have a stake in the 'addiction' industry, are getting a bit twitchy...

Who funded the research, and what's the comparison with cigarettes administered to test subjects under the same conditions?

If we're going to start banning things on the balance of harm to the individual then we should also ban alcohol and ice skating.

If the Americans could do that to the rest of the world do you think they would not? World dominance and total corruption is the holy grail for Trump and the 1% anyway possible foul or fair.

It's Capitalism that's killing our kids, not America. Capitalism is a Scottish invention. :tea:

Ja. Blame the Scots. Scottish capitalism was far from the American version. Go down to the Waters of Leith to Dean Village and see a very socialist community run by a top capitalist or over to Lanark. Prime examples of how capitalism can work.

Tell that to those who chased off common land during the enclosures by corporate militias. One of the earliest and most spectacular corporate frauds was the Poyais bubble devised by Gregor MacGregor - and I'm sure you can guess from where he haled. Or we can look at the regiments of dragoon that comprised the private army of the British East India Company - who in their heyday controlled a larger military force than any European country. And of course, if we want to locate the beginnings of the modern practice of consolidating capital assets in the form of stocks and shares then we have to look no further than the 17th century Dutch traders of Amsterdam and Antwerp.

Pointing out a historical fact is not to apportion blame. Your fixation with 'The Great Satan' blinds you to the fact that the corrupting influence borne of the finacialisation of politics by the wealthy and the unregulated exercise of global corporate power have a long and infamous history that pre-date modern America. When we feel we are entitled to solely blame others we deliberately avoid looking closer to home.

well, while the word "capitalism" may be a scottish invention, the mercantilist system, not to mention the international economy of the High and late middle ages, were already capitalist in all but name.

Brian you are mixing metaphors. The Dutch traders were gamblers not capitalists. Dutch society was ruled by the middle-classes not by rich individuals. They always depended on each other. We did not have land owners or nobility as the UK before the 18th century or since and it is nothing in comparison with the greed and corruption of present day American capitalism. There has never been a 1% in Dutch society. We never had feudalism. Willem the first was not even king.
