It seems that the Deep State and its lackey mainstream press has managed to suppress the big revelation by the lunatic asswipe McAfee that our member-in-hiatus was touting. Ah well.

In other non-news, The Economist performed a program of testing to determine whether Google is actually promoting a left-wing bias (a free account is required to read the full article):

'Google rewards reputable reporting, not left-wing politics'

“Google & others are suppressing voices of Conservatives”, tweeted Donald Trump in 2018. “They are controlling what we can & cannot see.” The president’s charges of bias are often dubious. But many people worry about algorithms absorbing human prejudices. Robert Epstein, an academic, has compiled data that show Google suggesting more positive terms when users type “Hillary Clinton” than when they look up Mr Trump. pj Media, a conservative blog, claims that liberal sites get 96% of results for “Trump” on Google’s news page, a compilation of links to recent articles.

Google says that the 10,000 human evaluators who rate sources for its search engine assess “expertise” and “trustworthiness” but not ideology. Web-traffic figures support this defence. Sites with high scores from fact-checking groups, whose judgments probably resemble Google’s, draw larger shares of their visitors from search engines than sites with low scores do. Factually inaccurate sources also tend to have strong left- or right-wing slants.

...

If Google favoured liberals, left-wing sites would appear more often than our model predicted, and right-wing ones less. We saw no such trend. Overall, centre-left sites like the New York Times got the most links—but only about as many as our model suggested. Fox News beat its modest expectations. Because most far-right outlets had bad trust scores, they got few search results. But so did Daily Kos, a far-left site.
...

Our study does not prove Google is impartial. In theory, Google could serve un-biased links only to users without a browsing history. If fact-checkers and Pulitzer voters are partisan, our model will be too.

Moreover, some keywords did suggest bias—in both directions. Just as pj Media charged, the New York Times was over-represented on searches for “Trump”. However, searches for “crime” leaned right: Fox News got far more links than expected.

This implies that Google’s main form of favouritism is to boost viral articles. The most incendiary stories about Mr Trump come from leftist sources. Gory crime coverage is more prevalent on right-leaning sites. Readers will keep clicking on both.

Fucking stupid psychopaths.
Fox News Host Dismisses War With Iran as ‘Just a Video Game’

As President Trump ramps up his rhetoric against Iran this week, his administration got an assist Thursday afternoon from a friendly Fox News host who downplayed the human cost of yet another war in the Middle East as “just a video game.”

After Jesse Watters jokingly introduced him as The Five’s “global affairs analyst” to laughs from the show’s other co-hosts, Greg Gutfeld proceeded to predict a completely bloodless conflict with Iran should Trump’s national security adviser, John Bolton, get his way.

Explaining that he got his “video game” analogy from the show’s prompter operator, Gutfeld added, “And I think that’s good news.”

“We’re now in a time where it doesn’t matter how large your population is, because the population is no longer expendable in war. It’s now about the machines that you have,” he continued. “Drones are now replacing bones,” Gutfeld added, giving himself a pat on the back for the rhyme. “So, it will be stuff versus stuff, and fortunately for us, we have the best stuff.”

“How do you retaliate to something that isn’t human?” he asked, alluding to the drone reportedly shot down by the Iranian regime. “They took $160 million worth of machinery from us. We have to do that, which means either hitting some parts of their navy, or refineries, or whatever.”

“You retaliate with machines, but I think it’s good news,” Gutfeld added. “I think we’re moving away from hurling bodies at bodies.”

They've been swallowed whole by the military industrial propaganda machine and believe we are invincible.

Of course if you have a heart you might think to ask why there was no talk of a justification for the war first.

Instead the discussion immediately focuses on whether or not we could win, and at what costs.

I expect their attitude would be different if it were somebody like that horrible war-monger Hillary Clinton rattling her sabre instead of Cadet Bonespurs, the Chickenhawk in Chief.

Drone operators working from air-conditioned office blocks in Washington and Nevada suffer the same levels of PTSD and take their own lives at the same rate as traditional pilots. 'Drones not bones' doesn't mean anything - the human cost is still appalling.

True.

But I'm also unimpressed with the bottom left...

The political dimension in the graph Rum posted was Liberal/Conservative. An alternative, perhaps an old-fashioned view, would be Left/Right... Either way, the graph was an example of a two dimensional plot. It is not difficult to imagine a 3rd dimension of political opinion added, producing a 3-dimensional graph, perhaps shown in a hologram...

I suppose both Liberal/Conservative and Left/Right are simplifications. In ecology, a subject I studied intensively, we used the concept of a multi-dimensional hyper volume to get a handle on the concept of an ecological niche. Any given species has a preferred position (or range) along dozens of different environmental parameters; temperature, humidity, soil type, etc... The resultant, unique hyper volume is the specie's niche.

There is something about the idea of a political hyper volume that appeals to the nerd in me... :tea:

The way Americans fuck up the term liberal. Liberal is not left wing but dont tell them that. Libral in Europe is conservative. Just look at the fractions in the EU parliament. Socialist is such a no go word in America. Pathetic.

Being in the middle between two extremes does not denote a lack of bias. Centrists are opposed to both the left and right. That's their bias.

Only in the sense they believe in less government and as few restraints on individual liberty as possible. Here at any rate they stand for more ‘fairness’ and have been up front about higher taxation for the rich for example in order to improve the lot of poorer people.
