Cripes they do some good stuff!

I’ve just watched (over two nights) a documentary about the Vietnam war, from the mid 19th C in french colonial times, to the ‘withdrawal’ of American forces.

The quality of the narrative, including a degree of objectivity I’ve rarely seen in American documentaries, was really impressive. The story is told from all sides, with interviews with VC and North Vietnamese people as well as American forces.

Makes me want to seek out more PBS stuff (this is on Netflix btw).

I love their Tiny Desk Concerts. Well worth digging through the archive.

PBS is great, so naturally, Republicans want to kill it.

Merkins make a lot of great documentaries. Errol Morris, Alex Gibney, Robert Kenner, Joshua Oppenheimer, Laura Poitras, Sebastian Junger to name a few.

You should watch Errol Morris's Fog Of War. It's one of my favorites...

A lot? I don't think so, and compared to UK documentary makers, not great either. Nobody beats the likes of Ricky Gervais, John Morton, Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn among many others.

Fuck UK and US documentaries. Dutch documentaries are where it's at.
