There's increasing talk of a second referendum the last couple of days. The logic appears to be that given that our politicians have had two years to sort this out and haven't managed to it is over to 'us' to make some sort of decision.

May has always said no to another one in very strong terms, so she would probably have to resign if we go down that route.

will there be enough votes in the House to launch a second referendom? the Tory Leavers aren't going to let that pass if they can block it... heck, and if may is against, who would take the hot potato to begin with?

I understand Rum but the ramifications of such a decision would be enormous. The trouble is so many vultures are swirling overhead from both sides. You would end it with the same situation as cancelling Art 50 would cause.

The thing is I dont see a way out. Maybe you do but there are so many variables. What is Trump saying to May? We dont know. With a view on the UK-USA trade agreement. He may be trying to get his ore in?

This is a unique situation. I cant think of anything like it.

Rutte? You are joking. He still lives at home with his mum. That side of him is weird. He is your full 100% workaholic. Not religious. He is just one of those Dutch politicians that gets everywhere and does not offend. The EU is full of them.

She won't resign - but she might be booted out if the backbench Tory Leavers have their way (and if frustrated Tory Remainers think it's the only way to a fresh start). Many Tories are saying that they can't imagine Mrs May leading them into the next election. That's what will really do for her - Brexit might be a disaster, but a trouncing at the next general election would be unforgivable - and in the current climate job prospects aren't great for disfavoured politicians. Many of them must be wondering how they're going to pay the mortgage on two or three houses without an MPs salary and access to generous expenses and subsidies.

May’s leadership under threat as Tory MPs mobilise against her

Theresa May’s grip on power appears to be slipping as speculation grows at Westminster that she could face a vote of no confidence from Tory MPs exasperated at her last-minute decision to pull the meaningful vote.

While the prime minister took a whistlestop tour of European capitals on Tuesday in an effort to win fresh concessions from EU leaders, MPs were lobbying colleagues to submit letters of no confidence in her leadership to Graham Brady, the chair of the 1922 Committee of backbenchers.

Friends of Brady refused to deny reports he would meet May after her regular appearance at prime minister’s questions on Wednesday lunchtime. He would have to inform her first, before calling any no confidence vote.

There was fevered speculation at Westminster on Tuesday night that the threshold of 48 letters – which would trigger a vote – had finally been reached.

The former environment secretary Owen Paterson, a prominent leave campaigner who has been a trenchant critic of the prime minister’s approach, made his own letter of no confidence public. He said May’s deal represented a series of “broken promises” and was the culmination of “more than two years of poor government decision-making”...

Just what the country needs at this time: 6 weeks for a party leadership battle, or the parliamentary party shoehorning in an unopposed single candidate for the sake of expediency. David Davis, Dominic Raab, and Amber Rudd were very evasive on the late-night news when pressed on whether they'd thought about standing against May. Jeremy Hunt has recently changed his tune on Brexit, and Geoffrey Cox has also been touted as a potential clean-broom Brexiarian candidate. And there's always Mogsy, BoJo and Fox of course...
