The employment minister, Priti Patel, has struggled to explain how a post-Brexit government would spend money it currently contributes to the EU.
Remain campaigners accused Vote Leave of peddling “fantasy economics” after it claimed it would protect those, such as farmers and scientists, who are currently funded by the EU.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Patel, who has been prominent in the leave campaign, said: “There would be more than enough money to ensure that those who now get funding from the EU including universities, scientists, farmers, regional funds, would continue to get money.”
Pressed on how Britain would spend the £160m a week it currently contributes to the EU, Patel confirmed that a post-Brexit government would spend £100m a week on the NHS. But she was vague about the remaining £60m, saying only that it would go towards cutting VAT on fuel.
Asked how much would be spent on schools, new roads and tax cuts, Patel said: “We have not said we would spend money on those items. We have said that we would spend British taxpayers’ money on a range of priorities including the NHS and in particularly as well on [cutting] VAT on fuel. So those are the two areas that we have said we will spend that money on.”

In everyday terms, the cost of EU membership is less than 30p per person per day, roughly the cost of a cheap mobile phone contract. The reduction in the government’s tax revenues from even a small reduction in growth rates after leaving would dwarf any saving in our net EU contribution.

Some of Japan’s biggest companies have warned that a victory for the Brexit campaign could have a negative impact on their investments in Britain.
Sadayuki Sakakibara, the chairman of the Japan Business Federation, noted this week more than 1,000 Japanese firms have a presence in Britain.
It echoed a plea in May by the prime minister Shinzo Abe for Britain to remain in the EU, pointing out that those Japanese companies employ around 140,000 people in the UK.
“There would be an immeasurable impact on their businesses” in the event of a victory for the Leave campaign, he said.
His warning came as fears of a Brexit sent stocks in Tokyo to their lowest level in four months on Tuesday, and sparked a surge in the yen against the dollar and other major currencies.
Several Japanese firms have voiced alarm at the prospect of Britain leaving the EU.
Hitachi has said Britain’s membership of the EU had influenced its decision to open a train maintenance depot in west London last year.

A leading health professionals’ journal has urged all doctors to vote remain in the 23 June referendum, arguing that the health case for Britain staying in the EU is overwhelming.
The British Medical Journal said it had taken the unusual step of intervening in a political debate after being unable to find any prominent health organisation that backs Brexit.
Its editors said the leave campaign’s arguments on the NHS were “simply wrong” and warned that EU withdrawal would mean less money for healthcare and a loss of influence on the medicines research agenda.

The Netherlands were a founder member and are very much involved in the running of the EU not like England which is on the edge. It was a Dutchman that organised the Greek rescue but of course the Little Englanders would not realise that. What do you think will happen when the Scottish bit of England breaks off and returns to the EU along with the North bit of England. The Welsh bit of England wont hang around either and the same is true of the Northern Irish bit of England.
