Well, yes, but it was an analogy and nobody's suggested an effective way to eliminate all guns on the planet. Anyone with access to a file and a lump of steel can make a gun, and anyone with access to basic chemicals can make gunpowder.Făkünamę wrote:Of course it is theoretical. It's like saying that you can prevent sunburn by turning the sun off. It's "irrefutable logic" but it's a vacuous non sequitur since you can't turn the sun off.Făkünamę wrote:Hah. That's not a logical refutation. That's your opinion shored up.Seth wrote:No, it's easily refutable illogic. It fails on the premise "no more guns."Făkünamę wrote:One thing is undeniable fact: Guns are used in 100% of all gun violence. So.. If guns are used in gun violence, to reduce gun violence we must reduce the number of guns. If we reduce the number of guns to zero, then gun violence must, logically, also be reduced to zero. No more guns means no more gun violence.
This is fact and irrefutable logic.
It is impossible to eliminate guns. And I mean impossible.
No guns = no gun violence. Irrefutable.
Same thing with guns.
As for the sun analogy, that's a great exaggeration. Eliminating all firearms on the planet is eminently more achievable than stopping the sun at the present time.
Is Zimmerman guilty? Should he be convicted of something?

True. And even if all knowledge was erased, people would learn to use sharp rocks, then learn to attach them to sticks, and so it goes. Anyway, erasing the sum of human knowledge is even less achievable than the eradication of all guns.
Arms races are entirely natural. We see it all the time in the evidence of and the observation of the evolution of species. So what is needed is global policy. Unfortunately the UN has never been united on much. There's nothing in place on the global scale.

I really hate starting sentences with 'and'. It's just wrong.

Fewer guns = more overall violence, though, based on comparison of UK and US violent crime stats.Făkünamę wrote:No guns = no gun violence.

All violence in a society is directly proportional to the asshole concentration within that society. Guns do not directly cause violence to happen, they just make it less inconvenient.

Watching MSNBC, my my my, the butthurt is strong. They're just OUTRAGED. They can't BELIEVE this MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE!
That odious little publicity seeking slimeball, Al Sharpton, is "going after" Florida's SYG law, because there's "something wrong in that state". Well, fuck you, Al. This is how we do things down here, if you don't fucking like it stay the fuck out.
Honestly. If you don't like it, stay the fuck in Chicago or some other shithole where the politics are more to your liking. We don't need your money, we don't need your advice, we don't want you down here. This is OUR state, not yours. Fuck off.

Oh, upset isn't the word for it, they're fucking foaming at the mouth. It's the goddamned end of American jurisprudence, the reestablishment of Jim Crow, we might as well legalize lynching. Al Sharpton is absolutely hilarious. Look up "pompous, self-righteous, blustering outrage" in the dictionary and there's a picture of his face.
I asked this question on FB, I'll ask it here also. For those of you so outraged by this verdict - if you want to ignore the verdict of a legally constituted court of law, then what is the difference between you and the vigilantes you claim to abhor? Here's another - do you really want to live in a society that conducts criminal trials by Facebook, that will convict a person because "everybody knows" he's guilty? Do you?

Of course they do, so long as the verdict mirrors their own personal beliefs. That's exactly WHY we have jury trials. This trial is a vindication of everything about American jurisprudence that is good and right. It proves that we don't allow our courts to be turned into kangaroo courts of public opinion, even when civil unrest is threatened.laklak wrote:Oh, upset isn't the word for it, they're fucking foaming at the mouth. Haven't heard if the riots and revenge murders by blacks have started yet, but I did reload my magazines with fresh ammo and dusted off the Level IV body armor.
