Death and Atheism, The Great Divide?
Atheism doesn't claim the impossible and so has no answer for the last mortal hour?

What will the world be like after its ruler is removed?

I have seen the bright tunnel of light and felt the feeling of peace and love........before coming back to (my own) complete amazement (if I had woken up on Mars I would not have been more surprised to be "back").
...........cause was a blow to the back of the head with a slab of concrete......and no alcohol or drugs involved.
Didn't even tempt me to consider Woo.......just figured it was brain chemicals and wiring getting messed up - me is hardcore atheist!

You dodged the bullet and proclaim yourself a expert on the deeper significance of dying?Jesus_of_Nazareth wrote:I have seen the bright tunnel of light and felt the feeling of peace and love........before coming back to (my own) complete amazement (if I had woken up on Mars I would not have been more surprised to be "back").

Re: Death and Atheism, The Great Divide?
When I was a kid I passed out in a swimming pool. I remember the exact instant before passing out -- I had leaned my head back, holding my nose, to rinse back my hair after a particularly grueling swim, and I just fainted dead away. What seemed like immediately thereafter I woke up on the side of the pool with smelling salts all over. I was fine and I don't think I was there long, but it was long enough to sink in the water and have my brother notice, and then pull me up, then have other people come over, including the life guard from the opposite side of the Olympic swimming pool, pull me up onto the concrete around the pool and then wake me up.
There was nothingness in between my dipping my head in the water and waking up with smelling salts. Not "blackness" and not a feeling of sleep. I was out - it seemed like no time had passed and there were no thoughts or experiiences in between.
I find it hard to believe that death -- a nonoperational brain -- will involve more than that.

Nah, just responding to an earlier comment about the last hour - and saying that just because someone sees and feels warm fuzzy shit don't mean anything.Scrumple wrote:You dodged the bullet and proclaim yourself a expert on the deeper significance of dying?Jesus_of_Nazareth wrote:I have seen the bright tunnel of light and felt the feeling of peace and love........before coming back to (my own) complete amazement (if I had woken up on Mars I would not have been more surprised to be "back").

That endorphin wrapped passage of light is not identical to being dead for a hundred trillion trillion trillion years (and then something happens?)Jesus_of_Nazareth wrote:Nah, just responding to an earlier comment about the last hour - and saying that just because someone sees and feels warm fuzzy shit don't mean anything.Scrumple wrote:You dodged the bullet and proclaim yourself a expert on the deeper significance of dying?Jesus_of_Nazareth wrote:I have seen the bright tunnel of light and felt the feeling of peace and love........before coming back to (my own) complete amazement (if I had woken up on Mars I would not have been more surprised to be "back").

There is only erosion of physical vehicle. The Cat remains conscious in the many other counterfactual dimension in which it did not die.
