I linked to four sources, one of which is The Guardian, which you keep quoting from almost exclusively. If the sources are wrong feel free to correct the facts I quoted from them. For instance, do the the Netherlands buy coal, or not? If they do, how much and who from? Then go on to providing evidence that the Netherlands have met the Kyoto Agreement aims they signed up for. And on to the next point.

I kind of doubt you'll even try. You don't rely on data, basically because they keep contradicting what you wish to be true.

Wrong way round, Scotty. You, meaning everybody, including the Netherlands, stop buying coal and then there'll be no mines left open. Mind you, then there'll be no DAF trucks to build, or pushbikes, or trains, or washing machines...

Realistically, the whole deal about fossil fuels of all sorts is making a transition to renewables. It cannot happen instantly, or even over a year or two; some parts of the environmental movement have unrealistic expectations in this area. Still, it is not happening nearly fast enough, and the technology is there to increase the speed of transition considerably. Some governments (such as Australia's Federal Government) are laggards; we have a conservative rump of climate change deniers within the coalition who contribute to this. World-wide, the business and finance community is more on board than our federal morons.

I'm not saying that we can absolve countries who supply fossil fuels from blame, but neither can we absolve those who buy and burn it. It is a global problem.

What a logic? What is the whole purpose of coal and why was Ozland flogging it to all and sundry? If you did not have the coal how would you burn it? Coal is worth to Ozland 56 billion dollars annually. Why cant they not dig it up? For that reason alone. When are they going to stop mining? Probably not for a long time. It is an Ozland problem as they cant afford not to mine it.

Global demand for coal will diminish, and coal companies in Oz will simply have to cop it sweet. You are missing the point that Brian and I have tried to make; the global economy is the overall driver of fossil fuel consumption, and it will be global changes that drive any reduction. The Oz economy will simply have to adapt to selling less coal, and move into selling lithium for batteries and rare earths for electronic components. Don't worry - we're not going to break into your tulip sales...

Dutchy "logic" on display here. Apparently the one's burning it aren't adding CO2 to the atmosphere. Apparently there is a heretofore unknown physical process where just digging it up turns it into CO2 in the atmosphere.
