I read that yesterday too.

I was talking to my son about social psychology. Reminded of an event at work. I resisted!

We had to play a diversity game at work, early 2000s. Sat in tables playing card games in round tables. The point was to learn the rules at each table without asking. But one lady changed about 5 tables to her rules from the card we read at the first table (then they collected the cards). It took me about one hand to suspect a trick and to solve the task: play a random card without looking. The rules only applied to winning the hand.

You were supposed to adapt to new situations and come up with working rules in each table as people got moved around. Nobody would remember all the rules, so the table would adjust. There was no actual culture and all were equal to start with. The mix of rules would be each table's culture at the end.
