I must admit I've never seen anyone better at sneering and spurious gasconade than our very own Glaxitive...

As a half Gascon, I resent the use of "Gasconnade" for what glaxative spurts out.

Resent away.

It's no accident that the name of the legendary (possibly apocryphal) French soldier, Nicolas Chauvin, became eponymous with overweening arrogance and boastfulness in the English as well as a number of other languages.

The Gascognes just happen to be way more arrogant and bragging than the rest of the French. Even Jean-Pierre Cavaillé, who spares no effort to display the Gascon people in a positive light, makes no attempt to hide or deny the fact. Deal with it, Svartalf.

Interestingly, while French also includes terms like Gasconnade and Gasconner (though the latter can simply mean to be speaking in the Gascon dialect rather than in proper French), those connotations are much more commonly tied to Marseille, and its galéjades.

Regional bickering among the French is not interesting to anyone bar the inhabitants of the participating French provinces.

There is absolutely no doubt that European culture has a significantly longer history than Australia, but if it is richer for it is debatable. That said, your attempt to distract from the topic you brought up - your resentment of the use of "Gasconnade" - is a miserable failure. :P
