Vegan Energy

Is your energy supply vegan?

We’re more conscious than ever about the impact our buying choices have on the planet. But the energy industry still hides a secret about how it uses animals in its energy production.

You've got a right to know how your energy is made, so you can choose a supplier that fits your principles. Here’s everything you need to know about vegan energy, and how to switch to an animal-free supplier.

Most of my energy comes from plants, and from a burning sense of self-righteous entitlement.

Cow only eat plants, and they produce a lot of methane. Are cow farts vegan?
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

It's cow burps that are full of methane, not the farts.

Human farts generally have hydrogen, not methane. A certain percentage of us have a bacterium in the gut that produces methane, but I think it's less than 50%.

I read somewhere that termites are the biggest producers of methane on the planet.
Probably bacteria in their guts too.

You would think that you could rig up giant digesters to use the same bacteria to break down timber waste and produce commercial quantities of natural gas. A lot of other waste material could be used like straw etc.

We should eat the termites. Recycle them, so to speak.

...or put them on tiny treadmills and make them work for all they consume.

In Africa, we have the biggest termite hills:
