No significant colonies are going to be made , on any any planets, even in our own solar system. None of us will see a viable colony on mars The list of things we haven't done or indeed cannot do
that are essential for anything other than a suicidal one way mission to mars is huge .

I have to agree with that, and also I don't see the point, when the Moon is so much nearer, and easier to land on.
Find out what's there on the Moon first, that can be used for making things in space.
Once you get away from dependence on lifting stuff off the Earth, the sky's the limit. Not.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

Mars is less habitable than the Earth during a Nuclear Winter.

At the very best it would be mind-numbing drudgery. Look at Matt Damon, he ended up as a potato farmer.
