Mars or bust?

Post by Rum » Fri Sep 29, 2017 1:54 pm

Elon Must says Mars by 2022!

“The future is vastly more exciting and interesting if we’re a space-faring species than if we’re not,” Musk said as he took the stage. “It’s about believing in the future and thinking the future will be better than the past.”

I'm all for it - if it is not funded by taxes. We have enough problems to spend those on.

Musk isn't just an adventurer or wishing to spend bis billions on vanity projects. He and his ilk hope to make a profit from space - from tourism, transportation and ultimately mining. Good luck to them I say. We aren't doing a very good job on this planet. Let's take ourselves to another and start our crap all over again there too.

Fair play to Musk for making the right noises, even if it's all bollocks.

The lack of imagination from your average billionaire is astounding. Pissy fights to have the largest fucking superyacht when they could be at the centre of untold excitement pushing humanity's dreams. Cunts.

Pah, what we need is a global supersonic underground transport network before we think about going to Mars.

Speak for yourself old man! I've still got a shot at being uploaded. The rich will need some lesser minds to tend to keeping the human-net clean.

I don't see what's wrong with setting about putting this planet back into better shape to support life. It would prolly be a lot cheaper and easier than starting afresh on some inhospitable, dried-out, oxygen-poor, infertile, irradiated shit-hole.
I think we all know that this would never happen given human nature, though...

Hux is right. We're fucked.

We are indeed fucked, especially when you consider what is more likely:

a) nuclear disarmament
b) nuclear holocaust

Knowing my luck I'll be uploaded into a cleaning bot or a domestic appliance. After all, the shoes of the immortal rich won't clean themselves.

Let's assume that everyone has nuclear weapons. It would be like Merica, where everyone is allowed guns and so they are afraid to shoot each other..

..er...

I'd buy a ticket for sure.

I see space in the long run taking the pressure off the Earth.
Not people living on Mars but on Gigantic space stations. You can make it better than Earth for people to live on, once you get a foothold.
You have unlimited free energy from the Sun, free deep freeze, transport for practically nothing and enough room circulating the Sun for the equivalent of a hundred million Earths.

The problems of living in space only have to be solved once. It's not going to change for about five billion years.
Get everyone living in space stations, and take the population pressure off the Earth. Just leave a skeleton staff on Earth, to keep an eye on the place.
Use the Moon and Mars just for mining raw materials, as well as asteroids and comets.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

A nuclear winter might be just the ticket to offset global warming. :hehe:
