Reddit science
We've mentioned Reddit here a few times of late. If you have not visited it - or else have but didn't have the patience to dig into it (it is not all that user friendly at first glance), it is worth persevering. One of its many sections is on science and below are the first few titles of the first page of threads with that heading. There's some great stuff there. Many of these are linked to proper papers.
Toxicology Biomarkers AMAHi, Reddit! I am Dr. Ian Blair, a professor of pharmacology at the University of Pennsylvania. Ask me anything about the use of stable isotopes in toxicology, mass spectrometry in drug development, or the role of mitochondria in diseases.
The science of being ‘nice’: how politeness is different from compassion. New research shows distinct situations in which compassionate and/or polite people will show generosity. This provides important insight into how we understand "nice" people. [x-post from our sister sub /r/everythingscience]
Being 'fat but fit' is a myth, a new study on the links between weight and heart disease
Seeing a smiley face in the text of a work email made people think that the sender was less competent, compared to if the same message did not contain the emoticon, finds researchers in a new study published in journal Social Psychological and Personality Science.
According to researchers at the University of Maryland's School of Public Health, young adults who said they consumed energy drinks between the ages of 21 and 24 were at a greater risk of doing cocaine or prescription stimulants for non-medical uses.
Climate Science AMAI’m Paul Loikith, a meteorologist and a climate scientist from Portland State University, I study extreme temperature and precipitation events in observations and climate models. Ask me anything!
The quest to replace Li-ion batteries could be over as researchers find a way to efficiently recharge Zinc-air batteries. The batteries are much cheaper, can store 5x more energy, are safer and are more environmentally friendly than Li-ion batteries. (techxplore.com)
Offshore farms could meet global fish demand
‘Magic mushroom’ enzyme mystery solved

The advantage of Li is light weight. Zinc is always heavy:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinc–air_battery
The battery seems to need air whereas Li batteries have to be sealed from air.

Re: Reddit science
In a stationary situation, like a storage battery at a wind or solar farm, weight or volume are not issues, unlike mobile uses. Cost per amount of energy charge, and durability should be the only issues.Tero wrote:The advantage of Li is light weight. Zinc is always heavy:

Petrol and Diesel engines need air.
Not a problem. There's loads of it, and it comes to you.
