"This planet is juuuuust right."

An Australian astronomer says it is "incredibly exciting" a possibly habitable Earth-sized planet has been found.

It is orbiting a nearby star, and astronomers believe there could be many more planets like it.

I heard this on the news - it certainly boosts one of the factors in the Drake Equation.

20 light years. :? At half the speed of light (massively ambitious today - 10% light speed would be a huge achievement) it would take 40 years to get there.

The point is well made though.

What kind of planet would be just right for a superintelligent shade of the colour blue?

What a weird place this must be. If it has water, it would probably be all locked up in ice, on the cold side, as the planet always presents the same face to the star. So it would be desert, half hot, half ice-bound.
It's unlikely to have a greenhouse effect, if all the water vapour is locked into ice. That all makes it far less likely that higher forms of life would evolve there.
It's exciting for the astonomers, but it doesn't sound all that promising as a candidate for colonisation.
It's amazing that they can tell so much at a distance of twenty light years.
.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.
