I took his scary-quoted "higher" to refer to songbirds with 'higher' levels of complexity in their output. :dunno:

For me, it would be a combination of the number of different components of an object (or organism), how many levels of hierarchy those components are organised into, plus a measure of the number and type of interactions among the components...

And of course, complexity doesn't mean a ''higher'' form of art.

Just take a look at the Mondrian or Rothko shite.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.
