Thanks, MiM. I got a couple of images last night that were in the right place, but only ~10 pixels to each of them. Just amorphous blobs. :sadcheer:

Looking west here in the UK shortly after sunset and not spotted it yet. Am I doing something wrong?

It's definitely not visible to the naked eye. I was using a long lens and aiming it at the part of the sky where people said it would be. After about 40 exposures, it showed up. You'll need at least some decent binoculars, Rum.

Thanks! Everyone seemed to be saying it was going to be at least a teensy bit spectacliar. Oh well.

They're saying even more about the one in November. After this showing, I'm pretty :what: about the next one.

I could have sworn when I was young I saw one nearly as bright as the moon with a massive tail on it. Did that happen or did I just imagine it?

Edit:
I just looked it up. I think it must have been the Hale–Bopp Comet. I would have been ten. See this is the sort of thing I was expecting when this thread was started.

PSY: Hyakutake 1996? Def not as bright as the moon, but still quite spectacular.

FBM: maybe an uncropped version with surroundings :ask:

Got all of the family out hunting for it, and just as they got bored I found it with the binoculars, so everyone got a good look at it after that, and I even got some kind of a pic of it :tut: .
