You know it will have to cross about 1,000 miles of dry land? That's going to be one IMPRESSIVE wave if it does that. And that's if it makes a right turn and goes up the Mississippi Valley and avoids the mountainous terrain in Georgia and points west.Clinton Huxley wrote:As far as I recall, it's anticipated that the tsunami will go quite a way inland. Hmmm...yellowstone is further over than I thought. Probably the only way to deal with the Yellowstone volcano will be to call Red Adair, if he is still alive.....

Before I click that link and risk losing a monitor, do they suggest water injection or "relief boring".Clinton Huxley wrote:This page has some ideas....

Re: Volcano
There was a "docudrama" called Supervolcano a while ago. It was about a modern-day Yellowstone eruption Kind of cheesy (which would fit right in here, come to think of it!), but interesting and worth watching. I'm not sure the science behind it is totally correct, but it seems to be better than most thinks of this ilk.
YouTube (of course) cut it up into segments, but you can watch them here:

I think that language has a lot to do with interfering in our relationship to direct experience. A simple thing like metaphor will allows you to go to a place and say 'this is like that'. Well, this isn't like that. This is like this.

Yes, that's the one. It was in two parts- part 1 was the docudrama; part 2 an actual documentary.

Re: Volcano
Largest eruption on Earth over the last 70,000 years is the Oruanui eruption. Greater than 1,100 km3 of ejecta. About half the size of the big Yellowstone one.Nautilidae wrote:This thread reminds me of how much I hope that Yellowstone doesn't explode...
Note: Pictures added for reference.
Left quite a big hole which is now this lake:Wiki wrote:Tephra from the eruption covered much of the central North Island with ignimbrite up to 200 metres deep. Most of New Zealand was affected by ashfall, with even an 18 cm ash layer left on the Chatham Islands, 1,000 km away. Later erosion and sedimentation had long-lasting effects on the landscape, and caused the Waikato River to shift from the Hauraki Plains to its current course through the Waikato to the Tasman Sea.
