You need to be clear, Cunt. Are you denying man-made global warming via the burning of fossil fuels and the increase in CO2 levels, or are you simply railing against the hypocrisy of the rich (which you would probably find some agreement here), and are skeptical of some of the options available to address the issue?
If the first, then, as rEv said, it is utterly pointless arguing, just as it is with creationists. If the second, then yes, there is room for debate - for example, some of the hysteria of the "Climate Emergency" folks is OTT as far as I'm concerned...
I'm not denying it, or agreeing with it. Haven't looked to find the answer, because the answer wouldn't change my mind about the second bit - the hypocrisy of the rich AND the media and government who seem to be owned by them.
You think science can't be swayed by politics and stupid interests? That wouldn't be very scientific of you...
While pErvinalia and others insist that I should speak the words, it merely cements my resolve to not join the club.
It shows when I ask him what 'urgent action' he is taking, just how it is important to him. What action have I been asked to take?
Vote for an approved candidate, I suppose (though I still don't know which of my candidates that will be)
I live fairly modestly, surround myself with actual scientists, not 'climate scientists' (geologists, biologists and one stunningly beautiful 'Water Ethics PhD'). I listen to them, talk about their work, try to play along when I can.
One example (not 'news', so maybe not right for this thread) of how it helps is as follows.
I met one of those folks when they first moved here. Her husband was chatting with me and asked 'is your car idling?'
Thinking about that mild rebuke over the years, I was more careful about idling. Also thought about it. Mainly, if I was going to be stopped for only a minute or three, I would leave the engine running. I've always heard that short stops are better that way, in using less fuel, and causing less wear and tear.
Later, I ran into a vehicle which shut-down and started again at every red light. Looking in further, it seems the knowledge I was using was more appropriate to carbuerater vehicles, but with modern fuel injection, it is fine to shut down more often.
So now I use my truck differently. It probably saves a shockingly small amount of fuel each year, but as pointed out, individual action isn't that significant.
The point is, I do try to learn, I probably live better (carbon-footprint-wise) better than most of you would if you lived in the same climate. (my furnace sometimes comes on in summer). But because I don't chant the right mantras, I get called 'denier' by idiots.
When I knew about this in the fucking 80's. It isn't fucking NEWS.
Funny story - the government scientists I know, all fly around for training, conferences and vacations. The 'old white guy' criminal defense lawyer I hang with, instead takes trains, and fights FUCKING hard to avoid travel despite the fact that he could surely purchase enough 'carbon offsets' to be as revered as Al Gore (who makes a HUGE environmental footprint, but has cash so is 'OK')
So the next time someone repeats the mantras like 'it's a climate emergency' or 'urgent action' check what action they have taken personally. It's probably as underwhelming as mine, but they will then follow it with 'vote the way I tell you'.
