I would have to make changes to my lifestyle just to have something to do with it, so nope. Useless to me. I have a laptop that gets used about 4 times a semester. It's mainly just an extra hard drive for storing photos. An iPad would be an even bigger waste of $$. I'm not into buying hype.

Well Mrs TA considers it the thing she's been waiting for for 20 years, and she's not a gadget freak by any means. It's FAR lighter, far less cumbersome, smaller and thinner than a laptop, has a 10-hour battery life, and does everything she'd previously have had to lug a laptop and power cables around for.
Complete win as far as she's concerned.

Re: Would you buy/use and Ipad?
I was playing around with one in the Birmingham Apple store for about an hour yesterday whilst my Girlfriend was off shopping, It's a cool gadgety thing, I especially like the fact that it can be used in a similar fashion to the E-readers like Kindle etc. although from what i've heard due to it being backlit it is a bit harder on the eyes than the other E-readers on the market.
I was seriously toying with the idea of buying one but after careful consideration I realised that for £599 (the 32gb version with Wi-Fi and 3G) which is the version I would get, I wouldn't take it out of my house for fear of losing/damaging it and if that was the case then i clearly don't need it as I've got my laptop for the purpose of at home surfing.
The games were good fun, it was very intuitive and easy to use (as with most Apple products), the online surfing was as easy as on the iPhone and like I said the iBook app for Ebooks seemed really cool but all in all it felt lacking in areas that a small netbook laptop would do with ease.
Lack of Flash (or any Adobe including PDF) support is a bit of a negative.
Overall I definitely won't be getting a first generation iPad, maybe when the new OS 4.0 is released that allows multitasking and the 2nd or 3rd generation is revealed I will reconsider but for now I'm giving it a miss.

I'll see what the competition has to offer first. (A different OS) I recently ditched my iPhone for Android and do not regret it.

What's the point of the pad?
