Insight into reactions from more everyday scientific consumers. Like scientific market research.

You could waste a lifetime, and some people do by selling or getting into the wrong avenue. by having too much idealism, or projecting your own processes onto the average person. Its better to try and see whats going on, what people care about, how things work, then adjust your aims and goals realistically. And why not learn something in the process. You can then decide without too much hassle what to do for the love of it, and what is a practical area of business that serves current needs.

Time consuming , but saves a fortune in resources and expenditure in the long run.
What are you talking about?

I thought you were a PC coder?

Are you saying that posting here is market research?
For what?

FS's crazy comics?

No. I'm perfectly satisfied that subduction happens.

Lighten up, what you mean like when I wanted to use mistermack’s delightfully funny, yet incredibly stupid statement:-
mistermack wrote: If you want to quote something silly, quote Childinazoo, where he said ''there is an infinite amount of numbers between 0 and 1 ''. ( repeated by Twiglet and Xamonas Chegwe, so take your pick ). That's where the nonsense came from, as I pointed out at the time.
.
:hilarious:

Perhaps you could prevail upon him to let me use it. Better than taking E. :flowers:

also do you think subduction doesn't exist? (i mean destructive margins, not the word 'subduction')

My education was in computer science and basic physics, but my training and academic sponsorship is in neuropsychology. Understanding the brain integrates physics and computational science, amongst other thing. I cannot say what im doing. I have a very clean academic profile, that required a bit of investment from others with professional interest and have been warned off linking our names to certain types of discussion. There is no point in getting into what i do here anyway. suffice to say that science is now a market, and thats the way its increasingly going at all levels now.

Me and Farsight have no affiliation, apart from exchanging a couple of PM.

He's a "wrecker", Brain Man. Guys like this aren't here for fun. They wreck threads. When they've wrecked all the threads, then they've wrecked the forum.

Farsight, where do you think science is going ? It looks like its increasingly organized groupwork, and so it will be more like big business. i.e. much like a career of any kind survival will mean being part of the largest most well resourced and stable interest group. You wont be able to do anything unless its signed into the business, like even the most rebellious creative artist still needs a record deal and promotion to reach an audience.

I can't speak for science, only for physics, and only in the UK.

I'd say that's only how it seems to be, because good physicists can't get their breakthrough papers into journals. There's been a desperate rearguard action in progress, but it's been getting ever more patent, and so is a lost cause. So I'd say physics isn't going the way of big business, and hasn't been since the demise of string theory. Instead I'd say that people in physics recognise that it's been going down the pan, with public and governmental recognition of scant progress along with recognition of propaganda promoting "theories" that are totally unsupported by scientific evidence. There's a very real fear that this will be followed by contempt and savage funding cuts, hence people in physics need to do something about it. Ideally this will preserve reputation and "nobility", but I imagine there will be some fall guys somewhere along the line. It's a very interesting situation.

What makes you think that that's the case?

What "breakthrough papers" have been rejected?

Conversations with physicists.

I'm afraid I can't say. If you'd written a paper that you thought represented a significant advance, you wouldn't want me telling people about it before you were published.

So: anecdotal evidence by those biased towards finding fault with others.
