I need my students to buy into math, and it's harder with this group than you'd think. Who makes some really cool videos that may pique the curiosity of even the least interested? I'm thinking of things like some of the findings from the guys that did Freakonomics, or science related videos that demonstrate the underlying math in an accessible way.

I'm thinking of going a different route. What if I give them a list of mathematicians and have them pick one and give a short presentation at the end of the semester? They can do 3 in a year. :dunno:

OK, it's been over 40 years that I've not done any trigonometry, and this one loses me so deep I could be in the jungle, possibly even in rainbow's tribal pot.

I think my biggest handicap in life is that I never learned the trigonometric identities. I was a lazy student, and being in a class for gifted children, allowances were easier to come by. As far along as calculus and differential equations, if I needed a trigonometric identity to bridge some obstacle in my algebraic processing of some problem, I would invent it on the hoof from the trigonometric identity of sin^2 + cos^2 = 1, and the geometric relationships of sin, cos, and tan in the unit circle.

If the angle is in radians, then yes, sin (Pi) = 0
