El Nino is a comin'

Post by Blind groper » Sat Jun 06, 2015 9:47 pm

The temperature differential across the Pacific Ocean is indicating a strong El Nino weather pattern is on the way. We already see the first signs.

Texas had 5 years of drought, and that has been catastrophically whacked by the worst floods ever. Alaska has record high temperatures, and weather events around the world are heralding the new El Nino. The last bad one was in 1998, and that caused disasters around the world.

Here in NZ, it means heavy rainfall on the west side of the country, and drought on the east. Since I live on the east coast, and rely on rainfall off the house roof to fill my water tanks, it means I may have to buy in tank loads of water next summer. It also dries the forest, and increases forest fire risk.

What does El Nino mean to you?

Nothing happens here. Even with El and his Nino it is business as usual. A slight wind and three days sun followed by three weeks rain and dull skies. :nono:

The last El Nino coincided with a halt to global warming that's lasted seventeen years.
This one should be interesting.

It's good for us because it causes wind sheer in the Atlantic, which moderates hurricanes.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

It should be good for Britain too then, as we usually get the tail-end of Atlantic Hurricanes.
