No surgery today. Treating superficial infections/infestations first.
Or do birds get free socialist medical care in the land of the ''free'' ?
I'll bet black birds don't get free operations in racist america.
I was a vet tech for 10 years. I don't think we ever charged anybody for work done on an injured feral. You see, mistermack, most people in the veterinary medical field feel generously towards animals and have a great deal of interest in helping them.

Indeed. I was actually just amused by the difference in concern for animals, compared to humans, in the US.FBM wrote:Gallstones wrote:Pro bono and paid for by donations...mistermack wrote:I hope it's got health insurance.Gallstones wrote:Looks like a spiral fracture, mid-humerus to me. This ranks as among the most bigoted, narrow-minded, quasi-racitst statements that I have ever seen at Ratz. Hope you get well soon.mistermack wrote:Indeed. I was a vet tech too. I worked at an emergency clinic in Santa Monica. We had a contract with LA county--annual lump sum--to receive and treat wildlife. We handed them off to rehabbers if they could be salvaged. People would bring in all kinds of things, we treated everything, even pigeons and possums. I hand raised a few myself for release.FBM wrote:Gallstones wrote:Pro bono and paid for by donations...mistermack wrote:I hope it's got health insurance.Gallstones wrote:Looks like a spiral fracture, mid-humerus to me. One of the vets on our board of directors was an avian and exotic specialist, he treated many cases pro bono.

This is a positive print of an xray we took of a grebe that had been brought in.

The round object is not an egg, it is a cloaca full of shit and urates that the bird voided right after the xray.
It had gotten entangled in fishing line. We removed the line and turned it over to a rehabber who then released it after a few days.
