The feedback due to clouds is poorly understood, and cloud feedback in different climate models varies in both sign and magnitude.

Re: More CO2, for the love of God, we need more CO2!
For some reason, this takes me back to when I was a young, naive first year teacher, altrhough the gases are different. It was a tiny Catholic girl's school, and I was not only the only male teacher, but the only science teacher as well...
I let my enthusiasm run away with me. I knew how to produce chlorine gas, via the reaction between hydrochloric acid and potassium permanganate, and I knew how to collect it in gas jars, via a water bath. I wanted to show the girls a variety of classic reactions of chlorine...
But I was shaky on quantities, and a bit gung-ho...
So, I put a shit load of the reactants together. I had 2 or 3 gas jars waiting to be filled. The girls were clustered around, looking interested...
I filled those jars, and started to think about phase 2... The reaction continued, furiously, with no sign of stopping within the hour... I opened the windows, then evacuated the science lab.
Not surprisingly, the Principal was not impressed, and I didn't get my contract renewed for the following year.
(Luckily, I was distracted from dangerous thoughts about lissome schoolgirls by having a torrid affair with an Irish exchange teacher at the school. Claire, wherever you are, remember your Aussie bloke once and a while...)

Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
And my gin!
And my gin!

Reaction lag. Wait for it....Blind groper wrote:Except, Seth, it does not.
Increased CO2 and water does to a degree increase plant growth. But the fact that CO2 and temperature keep climbing shows that this increase is insufficient to compensate for the dumping of CO2 by humans into the air.

Multiple lines of evidence suggest global cooling

The consensus may be moving away from global warming and towards global cooling: Scientists have been looking at different lines of evidence suggesting that the globe is in the midst of a slight cooling trend for at least the last decade or so.
Whether it’s decreasing sunspots or natural climate variations, some scientists are revisiting older theories from the 1960s and 1970s that the Earth is actually cooling off — bucking the mainstream consensus that the burning of fossil fuels is warming the planet.
Here comes the sun
One line of evidence scientists look at for clues into global cooling is sunspot activity. Low sunspot activity has historically been linked with colder periods in human history such as the period known as the “Little Ice Age” during the 1600s. Higher levels of sunspot activity have been linked to warmer periods like the one from the 1970s to the late 1990s.
Solar activity is now falling faster than any other period in the last 10,000 years, and some researchers have suggested that the planet could cool off in the coming decades.
“By looking back at certain isotopes in ice cores, [Professor Mike Lockwood of Reading University] has been able to determine how active the sun has been over thousands of years,” the BBC reports. “Following analysis of the data, Professor Lockwood believes solar activity is now falling more rapidly than at any time in the last 10,000 years.”
“When we have had periods where the sun has been quieter than usual we tend to get these much harsher winters,” Sunderland University climate scientist Dennis Wheeler told the Daily Express.
This is not necessarily a new discovery, as scientists have been pointing to rapidly falling solar activity for some time now. Last year, Russian scientists said that the world could soon plunge into another Little Ice Age.
“After the maximum of solar cycle 24, from approximately 2014 we can expect the start of deep cooling with a Little Ice Age in 2055,” wrote Habibullo Abdussamatov of the Russian Academy of Science.
The U.K.’s Lockwood also told the BBC that falling sunspot activity raises the risk of entering a new Little Ice Age “from less than 10 percent just a few years ago to 25-30 percent.”
“So the warming we saw, which lasted only from 1978 to 1998, is something that is predictable and expectable,” said Don Easterbrook, professor emeritus of geology at Western Washington University. “When the ocean changed temperatures, global cooling is almost a slam dunk. You can expect to find about 25 to 30 years yet ahead of us before it starts to warm up again. It might even be more than that.”
The United Nation’s climate bureaucracy, however, downplayed the role of solar activity in influencing the Earth’s climate. A recent study from U.K. scientists found that “neither changes in the activity of the Sun, nor its impact in blocking cosmic rays, can be a significant contributor to global warming.”

Re: More CO2, for the love of God, we need more CO2!
There was a major, and one off, peak in global temperature in 1998, due to the very strong El Nino event of that year. In 1999, temperatures had again dropped sharply back to the long term trend. Certain very dishonest people draw graph lines from the 1998 peak to the present and say that this shows no warming. However, if the average trend over that time is plotted, a very clear warming trend continues.
Yes, the sun seems to be entering a phase of lower activity. In this sense we may have lucked out, in that reduced solar activity may reduce the warming trend. So far, though, each year is still warmer than the last. I hope we are, in fact, entering another Maunder minimum, since that will give us a breathing space to institute measures to combat global warming.

Told you so...
More...Better start investing in some warm clothes because German scientists are predicting that the Earth will cool over the next century.
German scientists found that two naturally occurring cycles will combine to lower global temperatures during the 21st century, eventually dropping to levels corresponding with the “little ice age” of 1870.
“Due to the de Vries cycle, the global temperature will drop until 2100 to a value corresponding to the ‘little ice age’ of 1870,” write German scientists Horst-Joachim Luedecke and Carl-Otto Weiss of the European Institute for Climate and Energy.
