The surface of Mars. Why?

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

Well from an Earth-centric perspective everything on the surface of Mars is alien, so a rock could be classed as an artefact, don't see anything that looks artificial or cinstructed though.

Look at the big rock on the left. Note the clearly machined cube on it's right side, 3 o'clock position.

It's volcanic rock, straight lines aren't all that unusual, the rock cools quickly and contracts, creating clean fracture lines.

Giants Causeway in Antrim for a terrestrial example.

And the "submerged Atlantis" off Japan. (But, of course, that's "man"-made, so it doesn't count, now does it?)

The giants causeway was carved from soild Basalt 450 years ago by leprechauns native to that part of Ireland, unfortunately deforestation and the change to the metric system wiped out the last of that noble race in the mid-twentieth century.

:cranky:

We didn't adopt the metric system until the late 1970's!

... it was the early onset of global warming that did for the leprechauns. That and an unfortunate incident during the filming of "Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory", when a group of leprechauns hired as stunt doubles for the Oompa-Loompas were wiped out after Gene Wilder went on a chocolate-induced killing spree.

The leprechauns attempted to change to the metric system in 1953, unfortunately they were then unable to buy anything in Irish shops and thousands starved to death. This lead to the delay in the rest of the country adopting the metric system until 1971(?) when the government had prepared adequate food stockpiles, just in case.
