Re: Flavourless mafia day 6

It's important to post enough to be able to give some input to the game, and to suss out scum etc., but post quality is important too and trolley tracking on one person for the entire game is not helpful. A good town player will consider that they might be wrong, and even someone they find to be odious might have some good ideas. It's hard to play with people who are not willing to consider anything once they have made up their mind.

Actually, ani, zig was the scum role blocker, so you probably wouldn't have been able to kill him. But the next day you could have told us about your blocks which would have helped, assuming they couldn't block and the kill you. Any how, at least town would have had a shot at lynching scum if you had claimed special in time.

I think the bickering needs to stop.

Regarding outing, most of the vigs were night killed with no threats that would condone outing during the day thread. you do not out in that condition.

This was a well played scum game, much can be learned from this.
Like the first thing we do is lynch Zigmen!

:hehe: Ani & I used to kill each other a lot, in absence of a better target old habits died hard, apparently.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

I think most of the bickering is just ribbing. Mine is anyway, it's the longest I've survived as town in quite a while, and was a lot of fun.

Once, possibly twice, many months ago. My true nature tends to influence even random selection processes.

It is customary to review the game and most people want to know what they could have done better or have questions about things that they missed or didn't understand during the day. I wouldn't recommend lynching Zigmen first, he won't always be scum. He has really improved his scum game though, hasn't he? Very sneaky.

ANy special in danger of lynching should out. If they are not in danger of lynching, they should not.

This is not bickering.

So, Oblivion always wants feedback about game design, etc. after she runs a game. Ghat, is that something that you would find helpful?

On specials outing, you have to consider the chance of being lynched against the chance of getting one more night action, and also being able to tell town what you have done so far in the game.

In a 15-20 player game, I out when I have somewhere between 3-5 votes (usually 4) on me and no one else has more than 1 vote. If there is only 1 vote between me and the next highest lynch count, I wait a little longer. watching how people react to an outing special can also help in scum hunting.

The nearness of nightfall factors in. And so does the 'value' of my special ability. If I'm the seer or doc, I don't risk getting lynched - I out as soon as I have 3-4 votes on me. If I'm a less important special, I try harder to talk my way out of the lynch.

Especially 3 days into a game, there's no way I'd keep quiet all the way to the end. The info I have about who I've tried to kill, view, block, whatever, may prove helpful to town even if I do wind up dead by lynch or get night killed that night.

Also...I'm not really sure why scum decided to kill gib on night 2. I thought maybe you guys were worried I would try to play the game through gib - tell him exactly what to do, who to vote for, etc.

I don't do that when I mentor. I give my mentees info about the game, about strategies for their role, about guessing the game design, about what to expect from specials, tips on how to spot scum and spot specials, etc. And I act as a sounding board for whatever thoughts the mentee wants to bounce around.

I did play through my mentee the very first time I mentored. I didn't know any better really, because I'd never been mentored myself. I thought telling him exactly what I would do at every step of the game would be helpful.

Watching him struggle the next few games made me realize it is a terrible way to teach someone mafia. The mentor shouldn't teach the mentee how to play the mentor's game. The mentor should help the mentee discover his/her own game.

Yeah, I allowed myself to be thrown by the gib lynch. Thinking that gib voted blip, blip seemed scummy and was unswervingly focused on me, oblivion was mentoring gib, gib got nk'd. So I was pretty sure blip was the don for a couple days. When I decided it had to be either irre or zgmen as scum but not both, I went with the wrong one too. Grrrr. I can't help but wonder if irre wouldn't have confessed if I would have gone with zig. Oh well, there's enoguh wifom in the game, I guess I don't need to do it here too lol.

I know I should know this, but was it a back up vig thing or were all the vigs "activated" at once. Ghat said something about them shooting blanks but I didn't really get what he meant.

all three vig's were active at the beginning of the game. Only one of them had live ammunition each night, and they didn't know there were other vig's until that was made apparent in the daybreak/nightfall posts. So, only one vig kill would happen on a given night, and the other vig(s) would have to guess why their kill didn't go through.
