This isn't meant to be a game play post. I'm just reporting that one of my posts was interferred with.
There is currently a wank fnoglet in place changing the word

Code: Select all

to I love PORK!. Someone thinks it's hilarious.
Really ? Who can do that ?

Let me try it out with m.a.t.e. and what I wrote in the thread, which was teamm.a.t.e.

Any of the admins can do it, it's a creative way of using the word censoring facility built into php, like the way on RD.net Dawking became Dawkins to avoid people getting the site owners name wrong.

We take the tools of power very seriously here, that's why there is also a reason listing in the report options for posts containing puns. :coffee:

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

NO! Youre kidding!

:sarcstart:
a likely explanation is that someone has either guessed your password or hacked your computer somehow and retrieved your details. Is your anti-viral/anti-spyware, etc, software updated ?

If anything like that happens again, please do let one of the moderators know immediately and they will investigate. There's usually at least one Mod on-line 24 hours a day. :td:

Hey Virphen,

Are you able to spot any game
related strategy in this post? If anyone
else can it would be nice if
you send us a PM and let me know so I can edit it
out before anyone realizes something is
up. Integrity matters.
My first mafia game was
at the Richard Dawkins
forum where I’m sure they thought
it strange that a person complained
about post tampering and were
suggesting that I might be
crazy or stupid or
under the influence of
marijuana or something.

PS - Say I made a comment about Michael Drosnin in there somewhere as well for someone who was a bit slow on the uptake. I think the no edit, no PM ,time deadline rules are a great way to test the integrity of the players and make sure everything they say or do is demonstrably verifiable as arising purely from game thread clues rather than external cheating. A post like this in the game thread would not be cheating. It would be the sort of creativity players would have to come up with. Either that or cup and balls.

Lion, you're starting to grow on me. I particularly appreciate your senses of irony and humour.

As for the game, we can't comment - you'll need to review the thread and work out who is likely to be guilty and the appropriate recipient of your wrath in this current night round.

Yes, I'm on to your nefarious game!

Nobody is arguing for the right to edit posts, all I'm saying is that sometimes people have gone over the top in reacting to them. Hell in the one I edited, if I hadn't specifically highlighted the edit none of you would have even known I did it, as I did it so quickly.

I don't see any issues of integrity with allowing PMs, or enforcing a quiet night period - it's the rules of oblivion's game, so I follow them. They aren't rules that are in the games we run on ratskep, but that's just a different style.

Indeed. The considerations for designing games that allow PMs versus games that don't are quite different. I'm pretty good at designing no-PM games that are fairly well balanced in terms of scum and town both having a good shot at winning in an environment where all the players know how to take advantage of the opportunities in a no-PM game. Designing games for the kind of play that has developed here (and I imagine at ratskep) is a whole different challenge. The amount of roleplay you guys do is something I've not seen elsewhere for the most part.

Though I did wind up role-playing in a PM game a few months ago due to an odd concatenation of game events. It was easy and difficult at the same time, since I had to basically roleplay myself without taking it over the top...

Anyway, once the game is over, I look forward to everyone's feedback about what worked, didn't work and could be done differently next time. Once the role PMs go out, I don't mess with my game design. It stands or falls.

Ah well, I concede victory.

But wow, Lion loves reckless endangerment and breaking eggs to get his omelette. If I weren't bluffing, the game would nearly have ended.
