There's no mute but unfortunately, the tv show makes a point of having almost all it's characters in a grey area morally, some are clearly evil (like the people who have tattoos of the tree as in Zigmen's avatar) but most, even the central character at times, do stuff they maybe shouldn't do.

yeah, I really don't think ani can be taught, old irish dogs and all that. besides when he does lock onto a scum we get some useful info. I'd actually be really happy if he would do this to more than one person but he keeps getting locked on and then he is a liability.
