Maffs homework.
I'm going to take eight foot ladders and make shelving for the garage. Four of them in a "M" configuration.
Now, using a 3-4-5 right triangle and the hypotenuse is 8', the sum of squares of the other two sides would equal 64.
Right?
Okay, where did I screw up?

It was the least I could do. I checked.

Re: Maffs homework.
Might I suggest Plano plastic shelving instead?
It's cheap, sturdy, and customizable. You can stack it as high as you want, and you can attach adjacent shelves to each other.

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

I have about 8 of those units. No panache. I'd use the planos for saw horses, they're great for that.Tyrannical wrote:Might I suggest Plano plastic shelving instead?

The planos are also good in the basement, they don't collapse when they get wet.

Re: Maffs homework.
If you know the ratio of the sides (3-4-5) and the length of one of them (hypotenuse is 8'), you don't need any Pythag to work out the length of the others. Just work out the ratios by dividing the 4 and 3 in turn by 5, and then multiplying by 8.Gawdzilla Sama wrote: Now, using a 3-4-5 right triangle and the hypotenuse is 8', the sum of squares of the other two sides would equal 64.
Right?
Your triangle is 8, 6.4, 4.8.

If you construct a 3-4-5 triangle with a hypotenuse (the "5" side) of 8' (96"), the other two sides would be 3/5 x 8' & 4/5 x 8' = 57.6" & 76.8"
57.62 + 76.82 = 962

Re: Maffs homework.
So, I have two 8' ladders, 60° angles all around (two right triangles back to back.) The base would be ~7'.

So I'll just make the angles add up to 170°. Easy fix.PsychoSerenity wrote:If you have 60° angles all around, all sides are the same length.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:So, I have two 8' ladders, 60° angles all around (two right triangles back to back.) The base would be ~7'.

And while you're at it create a wheel where pi is exactly 3.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:So I'll just make the angles add up to 170°.
