They were carried under 'Betty' bombers until they were within range. The USN recognized the serious threat and widened their defensive perimeter. Since Betties were notoriously slow, medium altitude, bombers, not to mention tinder boxes, the strategy worked extremely well for the USN.

Funny that none of the axis countries ever developed a good high altitude bomber. :\

A strategic bomber force requires a lot of resources to build and operate. None of the axis countries had sufficient resources for something like that. That's one of the reasons why they went to war.

It often surprises people to learn that TV was demonstrated before WWII. When I bring up TV guided bombs they immediately assume I'm talking about Vietnam. :fp:
They've never heard of John Logie Baird? Who first rolled out a prototype television system in 1926, and built a working system for the BBC by 1932?
Yes, but it is a very big step from Logie Baird's work to a bomb mounted TV camera with screen for the bombardier! Amazing! I had no idea.

I love learning stuff and I learn stuff here all the time.

A disposable organic unit at that.

Meh, the lack of hydrocarbons caused some production difficulties, but that was overcome by converting rice to fuel for certain parts of the overall item. And later they managed to switch the whole of their society to this system.

True. But they had abundant resources early-mid war to develop such technology.

I don't understand the myopic-ness of their strategy.

Yep, the Trippel something or other. Didn't work. Schwimmwagen did better.
