That might just be because it's being used all the time.

Yeah, that's a good approach. If it is more stable, and you want to use FF, try uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

I suspect at this point that Palemoon is the problem. I need to hunt it down, kill it AND Firefox and all their kith and kin, then reinstall and try again. Finding all the easter eggs will be fun, I think.

use one of those Glary tools to clean up the uninstall, by running a registry cleaner to pick up any straggling bits.

Just run Malware Bytes and Spybot. Use your computer's own functions to defragment, check for system errors and all that. This "boost my speed" type stuff they advertise has to be a scam -- I would bet a lot of money they put shit on your computer.

Best bet -- back up your files and such to CDs. Restore to Factor Settings -- put your stuff back on there.

I've been having the same problem with FF occasionally. Last night it froze solid and I couldn't close it. Couldn't shut down the machine either, ended up having to unplug and pull the battery. I ran a disk check, which found a few corrupted sectors. Ended up uninstalling FF and reinstalling the latest download and it seems to be working again.

Time to back up everything, I've been putting it off too long and with my luck I'll lose something critical.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Well, Flash just crashed in Chrome. :sigh:

I am beginning to suspect that the freeze-ups are due to Flash trying to reload. :thinks:

I know i'm sounding like a broken record here, but it's got to be a memory access problem (or remote chance of it being your graphics card). If memtest and crystaldisk aren't picking anything up, then it could be a problem on the motherboard itself like your bus or even just some other circuit. Did you get around to testing the running temps of the CPU and your graphics chip?

It could also be that Flash itself is the problem. It would not surprise me in the least.

try running without flash for a few days and see what happens. You can turn it off natively in Chrome (if I remember correctly), or if in FF or derivatives you can use an extension/app. I use a thing called Quick Java.

EDIT: it might actually be Opera that you can turn it off natively.
